Abstract:

Results from two long-term studies involving artificial regeneration of northern red and black oak suggest that the clearcut/site-prepare/plant/clean sequence is not a viable regeneration alternative for these species. Height growth of planted oaks across a broad array of sites was unacceptably slow, and in neither study did the various cleaning regimes maintain the oaks in a favorable competitive position. North.
