RARE II: A Personal Account
The USDA Forest Service contracted with a university sociologist to develop a social impact assessment system to be used in examining alternatives in the second Roadless Area Review and Evaluation (RARE II). Time limitations, communication difficulties, and logistical problems limited development and implementation of the system. The personal report of the author has implications both for the way in which the Forest Service deals with social scientists and for social scientists under contract with natural resource agencies.
