Abstract:

Forestry education is shaped by its location in universities that are publicly controlled and subject to close public scrutiny, are no longer expanding their enrollments, and are increasing their research and extension functions at some cost to their programs of undergraduate instruction. The present trend toward aggregating all renewable-resource programs into one academic unit is a means to maintain autonomy, reduce costs, and foster interdisciplinary activity.
