The Purdue Traction-Cable Running Skyline System

There is a need for a skyline logging system engineered to operate under the conditions of cut-volumes, timber size and values common to Appalachian-type terrain found in various regions of the United States. An experimental running skyline system, using the traction-cable principle to achieve drum interlock, has been developed to operate within these economic and operational constraints. Mechanical details of the system and results of a logging production study are presented.
