Has the Contribution of Litter Decay to Forest "Soil Respiration" Been Overestimated?
Abstract:Computations are given indicating that the reported rates of forest "soil respiration" could be sustained for relatively short periods by decomposition of the annual litter fall. The probable significance of respiration from root tissue is noted.
