Abstract:

The paper presents an economic evaluation of the traditional forest regulation model. Conditions commonly associated with attaining the model are shown to be incompatible with economic considerations. In addition, there is a theoretical void between the model as a forest management goal and the procedures necessary to attain the model. While the traditional model is inappropriate in many instances, adequate substitutes are not presently available. Consequently, the primary recommendation of the paper is that research, to develop more appropriate regulation models, be initiated.
