Abstract:

Never before has it been so important for various groups of Americans to cooperate in all measures that will strengthen the nation in peace or war. The author reviews the progress made in private forestry in the West during the past four years, and proposes that progressive leaders in the U. S. Forest Service and in the lumber industry attempt to determine if some common, mutually advantageous course of action cannot be found. Because of the author's long experience in public forestry and because of his basic knowledge in the problems confronting the lumber industry, his proposals must be considered more than a "shot in the dark." It is sincerely to be hoped that the possibilities of Mr. Wohlenberg's proposal will be fully explored.
