In July 1940 there was published in the Journal an article defending the use of the Doyle rule. That article has aroused considerable interest and it is clearly evident. Furthermore, it is also clearly evident that many foresters strongly feel that the Doyle rule has little to recommend it for general use and that its use for scaling hardwoods cut in farm woodlands leads to disastrous results.
