Damage by Logging and Slash Disposal in Idaho Ponderosa Pine
The prevailing practice of selective cutting in ponderosa pine entails a variable amount of damage to the reserve stand and reproduction caused by felling, skidding, and slash disposal. The forester concerned with the management of this or similar types should have an appreciation of the nature and magnitude of this damage as related to the conditions and practices which influence it. To make available further knowledge of this subject, the following report gives a detailed appraisal of such losses on one operation, their significance, factors affecting them, comparisons with losses in other regions, and suggested means of reducing them.
