Economically and æ the value of the forest is enhanced by the presence of mammals and birds. Our wild life is worth over one billion dollars to the country. Such a valuable resource should be conserved. The author cites what is needed to manage it wisely--research by an adequate force of trained biologists, refuges managed by competent protectors, a well worked out game management plan, a continuity of state game policies and their administration by interested non-political commissioners; coördination of game organizations; and forest and brush fire prevention. Intelligent game management is hampered by limited scientific information and paucity of research funds.
