Notes: Validation of a Butt Log Volume Estimator for Douglas-fir
Data were collected from 193 Douglas-fir butt logs to validate the Bruce equation for estimating volume of butt logs. Average bias was 0.04 cubic feet and average accuracy (mean absolute deviation) was 3.7 cubic feet. The Bruce equation is recommended for estimating volume of Douglas-fir butt logs except when the butt log extends into the live crown. Forest Sci. 31:643-646.
