abstract = "An optimal control modeling approach is utilized to formulate a timber harvest scheduling problem for even-aged stands. The harvest problem involves simultaneously determining the optimal thinning and rotation schedule. The criterion of optimality utilized is the maximization of present net value over an infinite series of rotations. Under appropriate assumptions, a variational solution technique is employed to develop an explicit optimal solution to this problem. An example is developed to test the validity of the form of the optimal solution, to illustrate the formulation and to show numerical results. Forest Sci. 30:793-802.",
