The Diurnal Asymmetry in the Albedo of Tropical Forest Vegetation

The diurnal variations of the average albedo over a tropical evergreen forest and a nearby clearing, in a monsoon dominated region, were investigated. This paper focuses on one aspect of the investigation, namely, the asymmetry around solar noon found in the albedo at the clearing and forest sites. The asymmetry was pronounced during both clear and cloudy conditions and it seemed to be less pronounced during the dry period. The evidence seems to indicate that the vegetation moisture status provides a control on this asymmetry. Forest Sci. 28:297-304.
