Abstract:

Procedures for estimating diameter distributions in thinned and unthinned old-field plantation loblolly pine stands are presented. Compatible equations for projecting per acre (hectare) values of number of trees, basal area, and total tree cubic foot (meter) volume from initial stand condition are first developed. Three parameter Weibull distribution representations of diameter distributions are then calculated, so that when integrated for per acre (hectare) basal area and cubic foot (meter) volume the result is the same as predicted or observed. A FORTRAN computer program utilizing the procedures developed is available from the authors on request. Forest Sci. 28:161-171.
