Validation and Refinement of a Hazard Rating Model for Fir Engraver-Caused Mortality in Grand Fir Stands

A previously developed hazard rating model designed to estimate grand fir mortality caused by the fir engraver, Scolytus ventralis, was tested in 8 grand fir stands. The observed and predicted mortality levels were similar for both number and proportion of trees killed during a 3-year period. Refinements in the model and its parameters based on a larger data set are also presented. Forest Sci. 24:309-312.
