Correction for Edge Effect Bias In Point-Sampling

A procedure is presented which will reduce edge effect bias in point-sampling to a negligible quantity in most forest sampling situations. An equation is derived for expressing an increase in the radius of a tree's imaginary ring as a function of the angle-gauge constant, tree diameter, and distance from the tree center to the tract boundary. The increase in ring radius, within the tract, can be made to compensate approximately for any ring area overlapping the boundary. Increase in a tree's ring can be effected by a technique of point-sample extension or by a simple rotation of a wedge prism around the line of sight to an appropriate angle.
