Revision of Australian Prionocyphon Redtenbacher (Scirtidae: Coleoptera)
Abstract:The Australian members of the marsh beetle genus Prionocyphon Redtenbacher (Scirtidae; Coleoptera) are reviewed. Seventeen species are recognized 16 of which are new: Prionocyphon deanboltoi sp. nov., P. caementum sp. nov., P. hamatus sp. nov., P. insolitus sp. nov., P. kurandaensis sp. nov., P. lamingtonensis sp. nov., P. latusmandibularis sp. nov., P. macroflavidus sp. nov., P. monteithi sp. nov., P. microflavidus sp. nov., P. niger Kitching & Allsopp, P. ocellatus, sp. nov., P. quasichameleon sp. nov., P. storeyi sp. nov., P. tolgaensis. sp. nov., P. warra sp. nov., and P. yarraensis sp. nov. All species are described and illustrated. The male genitalia of a number of species have an extrudable sperm duct, possibly associated with an internal sac. A key to the species is provided.
