Revision of the Genus Macrohelodes (Scirtidae: Coleoptera; Insecta)
Abstract:The Australian Scirtidae genus Macrohelodes Blackburn (Insecta; Coleoptera) is revised, with descriptions and illustrations of the male genitalia of all species and a key to the species in the genus. Habitus illustrations of six species are given as well as 6 examples of the variable M. crassus Blackburn. Fifteen species are recognized: M. bicolor sp. nov., M. crassus Blackburn, M. dorrigoensis sp. nov., M. finneganensis sp. nov., M. julattenensis sp. nov., M. lewisensis sp. nov., M. lucidus Blackburn, M. montanus Lea, M. monteithi sp. nov., M. princeps (Blackburn)., M. parvus sp. nov., M. quasicrassus sp. nov., M. spinapennis sp. nov., M. storeyi sp. nov. and M. thunguttiensis sp. nov. Macrohelodes crassus var. intricatus Blackburn, M. crassus. var. niger Lea, M. crassus var. tasmanicus Blackburn and M. vittatus Carter are synonymised with M. crassus Blackburn. Macrohelodes crassus var. gravis Blackburn is synonymised with M. lucidus Blackburn. Elodes limbatus Carter is synonymised with M. montanus Lea.
