Abstract:

Religious education leadership must be ever-mindful of nurturing reflective teachers in an era of globalization. In far too many parishes teachers function without giving thorough consideration to contextual issues they face in their teaching setting. This article argues that engaging in contextually responsive teaching and making appropriate teaching decisions require teachers to take an ongoing stance of inquiry into their current practice. Elements of a reflective teaching practice are explored. Based on this discussion, intentional and systematic ways for teachers to engage in reflective practices are envisioned as a basis for ongoing teacher formation.
