Abstract:

According to this analysis, reinvigorating the U.S. relationship with Europe should be placed at the top of the list of priorities awaiting the attention of the new president. It follows that every grave issue that the United States faces in the world today, including the Middle East, can be resolved only if the United States acts in unison with NATO and the European Union. It can do so if the United States shares decision making and responsibility with the European allies instead of making solitary decisions and expecting the Europeans to pick up the check without question. New leadership, the new president is assured, will play a crucial role in bringing about the necessary transformation in the relationship between the United States and Europe.
