Debating history today
This miniature explores the state of contemporary disagreements about the nature and practice of history and argues that it is time to rethink the way we debate history. It suggests that the discipline needs to take greater account of new directions in the philosophy of history, since even the most empirically minded of practising historians agree that their narratives are infused with prejudice and bias. These are born out of the questions they ask, the sources they use and the way they arrange their material in story form.
