The Levitating Altar of Saint Illtud
A selection of natural wonders in the Historia Brittonum folk history includes a seemingly peculiar tale involving a mysterious corpse and a levitating altar. This paper places the tale in the context of early medieval hagiography, and addresses its presence in the wonders listed by suggesting the altar's location and nature.
