Guided by the O-S-O-R model, this study investigated the role of informational media use in public concern over the environment. Structural equation modeling using probability sample survey data from China and the US showed that informational media use partially mediated the relationship between altruism and other individual difference variables on one hand and environmental concern on the other. Although the basic mediation model held well in both the Chinese and US analyses, important cross-national differences were also observed.
