Abstract:

The practical implications in applied work of the different conceptual approaches to measuring seigniorage have tended to be glossed over in empirical work. Neglect of these important measurement issues can lead to mistaken inferences, especially in respect of those developing and transitional economies where inflation, and recourse to monetary finance, is highly variable.
