Abstract:
Using a sample of US universities, Shugart et al. (Atlantic Economic Journal, 14, pp. 45-50, 1986) reported a regression model estimation that the winning percentage of a football team was inversely related to the average number of pages published in top economics journals by an economics department faculty. To re-examine this finding, a similar empirical model was applied to more recent data and this investigation found that the football winning percentage has no statistically significant impact on the per capita number of pages published in top economics journals.Document Type: Research article
