Shaping Business Decisions Using Fuzzy-Set Analysis: Service Elimination Decisions
Using a database derived from a survey of service elimination decisions in the UK financial services sector, this paper compares the results of a traditional variable-centred analysis of the results with a case-based combinatorial approach that uses fuzzy-set analysis. The paper argues that the latter approach adds the facility to researchers of analysing logical rather than statistical relationships. A recently developed piece of software – Fuzzy Set/Qualitative Comparative Analysis (FS/QCA) – is introduced and used to provide analyses of logical necessity and logical sufficiency for combinations of factors that might affect the service elimination decision.
