Abstract:

Much remains unknown about the status of early child development and care in Tanzania. The little information available has never been put together to provide a holistic picture of the progress so far made in this important area. This paper intends to synchronise the information available in Tanzania for the purpose of depicting the country's holistic situation. This will serve as an important database for future actions as well as making early child development and care audiences in Tanzania aware of the challenges ahead. Overall, the type, quantity and quality of services delivered to young children in Tanzania tend to differ according to programme ownership, location of programmes and children's ages.
