'Ströme durch die Konvention jagen'--Some Remarks About the Use of Conventions and Their Modification in Lachenmann's Orchestral Works from 1969 to 1989
My article focuses on the most fecund period in Helmut Lachenmann's oeuvre, in terms of orchestral works: from the late 1960s to the late 1980s. I do not discuss every work from this period, but instead focus on a few examples and give information about the development of his thoughts therein. I explain how the increasing influence of the musical past in his orchestral music from the 1970s both embraces music history and renews the music of the present and set up his current musical period.
