Abstract:

This paper is based on the findings of a 2-year study into the support and resource needs of two LMS (local management of schools) secondary schools. Resourcing needs identified by the study had developed at the schools as a result of moves towards the expansion and diversification of the sixth form curriculum. This paper discusses the implications for schools of encouraging pupils to stay on in the sixth form and focuses on factors which are likely to influence their decision-making.
