Abstract:

This article suggests that interventions in voice production are an important and, at present, under-developed aspect of emergent masculine identities for transsexual men. The practice at the heart of the discussion is the ongoing Transvoices Project for which the author has been Project Coordinator. Reassigning bodily gender involves a process of re-inhabiting a previously uninhabitable body and the project looks to positively support that process.
