Abstract:

The classification, descriptions and distribution of moulds, yeasts, ascospores, basidiospores, algae and lichens are reviewed. As adverse effects on health may be due to either toxicity, allergy or both, the effects of these are presented. The nature of allergic reactions is evaluated, presenting the possibility that most responses are due to type B allergy, rather than type A. There is a need for more research studies.
