Business is booming for IT security consultants as hacker attacks and the recent onslaught of worms and viruses have made enterprises acutely aware of the vulnerability of their computer systems. Kim Hong-Sun, chairman and CEO of Korean IT security company SecureSoft, describes the latest developments in information security and outlines the processes by which firms can secure their data. Of all the Asian tiger economies, South Korea has been the swiftest in its adoption of broadband and wireless Internet technology, and the author paints a glowing picture of a society well attuned to the potential benefi ts of IT. Uniting the two themes of the discussion, he describes how advances in secure technology have enhanced the lives of Koreans and foresees a bright future for Korean security technology vendors. He also cautions, however, that increased levels of vigilance and continuing cooperation between business and government will be required to insure that trust and security in e-commerce can be maintained.
