Banking Groups in Hong Kong, 1945-65
During the period 1945-65 there was a dramatic surge in banking activity in Hong Kong, which increased competition within and between the traditional banking groups in the Colony. This article assesses the impact of these changes on the nature of banking groups in Hong Kong, and on the provision of finance to industry. This article also analyzes the regulatory responses to instability in the banking system in this period. The research is based on government and bank archives, and contemporary press reports.
