Abstract:
Walter Trier and Fritz Wegner, born thirty-four years apart, represent two successive generations of exiled illustrators whose work has enriched British children's literature. Trier was already successfully established as a cartoonist and as illustrator of Erich Kästner's children's books before he came to Britain, whereas Wegner's entire career is British-based. This article explores their affinity with childhood and the definition of their careers by exile.Document Type: Research article
