The article deals with two very specific travelogues about Central Asia, Mongolia and China, conceived in the 20th century. The first travelogue is a book by the Austrian author Bertha Helene Diener, who used the pen name “Sir Galahad”, in which the history and production of silk is presented. The second is a movie by the German director Ulrike Ottinger about an enigmatic adventure of seven women in Mongolia.
