Abstract:
The following study is based on three Italian neo-avant-garde novels, Salto Mortale by Luigi Malerba, Avventure di Guizzardi by Gianni Celati and Abitare il Vento by Sebastiano Vassalli. Both, the recurrent picaresque elements and their affinity to the comic components of the humble, the marginal and the antiacademic will be examined with regard to their neo-avant-garde approach. Concerning the predominant comic element in each of the novels, that is, comedy of the absurd in Salto Mortale, comedy of the grotesque in Avventure di Guizzardi and comedy of satire in Abitare il Vento, correlations can be established between the grotesque, the absurd and the neo-avant-garde on the one hand and between the grotesque, the satire and the picaresque on the other.Document Type: Research article
