Abstract:

This article analyses Hans Zöberlein's war novel Der Glaube an Deutschland which is interpreted as a paradigmatic example of national socialist literature. The article focuses on the relation of individuality and collectivity, and the impact of modern warfare on the individual soldier. It comes to the conclusion that Zöberlein interprets war not as a counterpart to chaos of civilian life but as its exaggeration:The soldier who is able to survive the war, will be able to survive in civilian life.
