Abstract:
Bruno Vogel's Es lebe der Krieg! is one of the earliest and most radically pacifist treatments of World War I in German literature. Published in 1925, it became the object of censorship and an extended court dispute. It is a highly significant example of the cultural battles for the war legacy in Weimar Germany. But it also deserves special interest as a literary work, as the aesthetic strategies it employs to express its political message clearly distinguish it from other contemporary books usually considered anti-war novels.Document Type: Research article
