Abstract:

The Nuremberg War Crime Trials were the media event in the post war years from 1945 to 1946. Hundreds of journalists from over twenty countries were responsible for the world-wide press and radio publicity. How did the post-war "Berliner Rundfunk" - the first German radio broadcasting facility, maintained by the Soviet authorities in Berlin - report on the Nuremberg Trials? How did these reports and commentaries deal with the guilt, atonement and individual responsibility of the German people? How were the defendants portrayed by their contemporaries? And finally, what influence did this have on the German listener?
