Abstract:

Although solid decision-making skills are a key element of self-development and a prerequisite for good leadership, this is not an area in which there has been overt investment. Numerous types of cognitive biases and the twin perils of pattern recognition and emotional tagging outflank structured decision making on a routine basis, and these need to be vigilantly guarded against. This paper elaborates on the pitfalls of emotionally led decision making, and suggests ways to enhance the quality of decision making.
