Abstract:
Clinical leadership is a new concept within general practice. This paper explores the background to its development, and describes a qualitative research project among general practitioners (GPs) using a questionnaire and interviews to gather experiences and ideas about clinical leadership. This indicated some models and contexts in which clinical leadership may be expressed, and the constraints that may be encountered. Conclusions relate especially to the role of primary care trusts in supporting and developing clinical leaders among GPs.Keywords: CLINICAL LEADERSHIP; GENERAL PRACTICE; MODERNISATION
