Establishing a children's learning disability team
Abstract:Repeated attempts to secure funding for a much-needed children's learning disability team in West Cheshire had proved unsuccessful. A review of these unsuccessful funding bids revealed a failure to gather adequate support from relevant secondary healthcare trusts and deficiencies in the proposed managerial structure and professional support for the learning disability team. A revised business plan offered an improved management structure for the proposed team. Support for this revised bid was gained from three interested secondary healthcare trusts, as well as from the local special needs social workers and the parents of children with learning disabilities. The improved business case, and the widespread support, resulted in funding being obtained to establish a children's learning disability team.
