Abstract:Rehabilitation services in Iran are fragmented and lack a multidisciplinary focus in their delivery. The expectation of society that disabled individuals should be cared for by their relatives has led to non-availability of public community services. The capital, Tehran, has a mix of rehabilitation service providers and the beginnings of community services. Some cities and nearly all rural areas are not adequately provided with rehabilitation services and there are no community services to speak of in these areas. The next decades will be crucial for the government of Iran in formulating its health and social policies, as the population ages and demand for services increases.
