Gardening With Chemicals
Abstract:In North America and Europe the market for garden chemicals (fertilizers and pesticides) is estimated at US$9.10 billion. This value reflects the premium that gardeners place on attractive, low maintenance gardens and how chemicals help in garden management.
There are many different active ingredients available to control weeds, insects, fungal diseases, slugs and snails. Most formulations are easy-to-use and packaged in small volume containers. Other garden nuisances (including rodents, birds and domestic pets) can be controlled or prevented from causing damage. As long as gardeners use chemicals in a safe and responsible manner their benefits significantly outweigh any potential disadvantages. Gardening with chemicals allows people the time and opportunity to relax and enjoy the beauty of their gardens.
