Registrants, in support of their active substances, generate a vast amount of information for Annex I listing approval under 91/414/EEC and further data is generated for Member State approvals under Annex III. Subsequently, additional data may be produced to update packages for on-going approvals and reviews. Environmental agencies, research institutes and the registrant companies may also collect post-registration monitoring of the fate and impact of the use of active substances at Member State level. We describe a unique web-based system, www.egeis.org, which collates information that is written or verified by independent experts on issues concerning the environmental fate and impact of glyphosate that is easy to access by the registrants and stakeholder organisations. The European Glyphosate Environmental Information Source (EGEIS) will assist the product stewardship requirements proposed under the revision of 91/414/EEC and is consistent with the aims of the EU Thematic Strategy on the Sustainable Use of Plant Protection Products.
