Abstract:
The introduction of the foundation year programme as part of Modernising Medical Careers (MMC) will involve major changes in the way aspiring surgeons are to be trained. Newly qualified doctors will enter a first foundation year (FY1), much like the current PRHO year, which will be followed by a second foundation year (FY2) with placements in a variety of specialties. Having completed the two foundation years, trainees will be eligible to enter either specialist training or general practice.Document Type: Research article
