Abstract:

Based on her work in poor rural migrant slums, in Bellavista, Trujillo, Peru, Aurora Elisa Ruiz Rosado looks at housing and water in relation to transmissible diseases. She argues that there is a need to sensitize governments and civil society about the value and social meaning of water for livelihoods, and, most of all, a grave need to improve integral water management, fair sharing and efficient delivery of water.Development (2008) 51, 278–281. doi:10.1057/dev.2008.22
