Abstract:

Shelley Anderson argues that community-based women's organizations are playing a key role in rebuilding post-conflict societies and in reconciliation. Lack of resources, especially financial resources, and lack of decision-making political power are major obstacles. While women's peace activism challenges many gender stereotypes, there is a danger that women's role in peace-building may also perpetuate such stereotypes.Development (2000) 43, 34–39. doi:10.1057/palgrave.development.1110166
