Abstract:

This seventh chapter of the PAHO Book "Violence Against Women: The Health Sector Responds" presents the achievements and constrains of the various PAHO Gender-Based Violence (GVB) programs and initiatives from the perspective of community participants and clients. The principal community-based activities carried out were: training health leaders and promoters; strengthening local networks for coordinating violence prevention efforts; public education, within and outside the clinical setting; reflection groups with men; and support groups for women survivors of violence.
