Abstract:
This second chapter of the PAHO Book "Violence Against Women: The Health Sector Responds" discusses the development, implementation and achievements of PAHO's integrated strategy for addressing Gender Based Violence (GVB), starting with how the "Critical Path" helped define the strategy. The "Critical Path" is a qualitative research protocol developed by PAHO and its counterparts aimed to catalyze the construction of an integrated strategy for addressing GBC that targeted women lining in violent situations and incorporated local community resources and the social sectors in a coordinated response to the problem. The "Critical Path" results piloted 16 networks in 10 countries in the Americas and stimulated national attention in each case. Keywords: GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE; VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN; REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH; WOMEN'S HEALTH; COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS
